A couple of weeks ago I missed a post because my Twerking Class ran late. And fresh off of the AMA’s it dawned on me that this could be an area I could contribute.
There is a long, proud history of challenging Societies Mores through Dance. In recent memory we have introduced parents and children alike from Elvis’ pelvis to Miley’s tongue. We are a better culture for it! Ask anyone… who’s Cool.
While I would never pretend to have the ability to offer up dance classics like the Waltz, Mambo, Tango or Twerking, I think there is always room to push out the horizon of public acceptance while feeding the narcissistic impulse of youth.
So I introduce you to two brand new dance styles!
Baiting: It is a Solo dance and is guaranteed to get you the attention you crave. Simply cup your hand like you’re warming it on a steaming mug of Hot Chocolate, place the other hand behind your head. Now, lean back slightly and with a straightened arm thrust your cupped hand to the ceiling as if to toast life itself! Now with the same straightened arm pull your cupped hand towards a spot on the floor between you feet as if you’re stealing fire from the God’s! Continue these Dance Steps to the beat of the music while adding flourishes of your own. (There is another version of Baiting which I like to call the Rubber Out, but that will be saved for a future Dance Post.)
Ucking: It could be the newest sensation we send to ballrooms across Europe! There is a synchronous element required to make it as beautiful to watch as the name implies, but it will need lot’s of practice. This style is not recommended until you master Baiting as it requires a partner, but unfortunately can be executed with very little experience. While Ucking can become confused with Twerking, it does not depend so heavily on your tongue. (If Dancing with your tongue is important to you, I have an Scottish Dance we can talk about later.) Ucking is a slightly more free-form version of Baiting where both Dance Partners apply their previously mastered skills with each other. Like I said, this should not be attempted by the novice… but often is and probably always will be. There’s just no slowing down these kids.
