Seriously, stop paying attention to that which is reality based and surrounded by unpleasant facts. Stay focused on hypotheticals and only those issues whose proposed solutions would continue to erode your individual rights.  Banning Guns, Banning Hate Speech, and increased levels of Domestic Surveillance… that should take care of the 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendments.  We may want to park some soldiers in your house for a few days without your permission sometime in the near future just to fill in the gap.  We’re working on that one… we’ll get back to you.

So remained focused on gun violence… but not in Chicago.  And ignore the crime wave associated with mental illness and gangs… because it is actually the wheel… sorry, the gun’s fault.

It’s imperative we stay on the path of fiscal insolvency driven by a unanswerable, nebulous, government… with the best of intentions.

The New Mentally Ill…

For almost 10-years now there have been discussions regarding what qualifies One as Mentally Ill.

This debate took a new step forward this morning.

With Barack Obama’s Executive Gun Control, and the Physician Requirement to report patients who are ‘Mentally Ill’, comes an important question.

Are You Mentally Ill?

Well, let’s see…

Depression is a Mental Illness. Are you taking Any Anti-Depressants? Prozac? Zoloft? Paxil? Celexa? Lexapro? Effexor? Pristiq? Cymbalta? Remeron? Wellbutrin? Elavil? Pamelor?

You’re Mentally ill.

Anxiety is a Mental Illness. Are you taking Any Anti-Anxiety Medication? Xanax? Ativan? Klonopin? BuSpar?

You’re Mentally ill.

Mood Instability is a Mental Illness. Are you taking Any Mood Stabilizing Medication? There are many such ‘Stabilizers’… let’s just say,

Do You have PTSD? Mild or otherwise?

You’re Mentally ill.

ADD or ADHD?

You’re Mentally ill.

OCD?

Yep.

Eating Disorder? Yes… too much or too little.

You’re in the club.

Seeing a Psychiatrist because… parents?

On May 24, the family of Santa Barbara shooting suspect Elliot Rodger released a statement through their attorney saying they are “against guns” and support gun control.

On May 23, their son allegedly shot and killed 7 people, including himself, and wounded 7 others. Breitbart News reported his motive was “retribution” for women who had rejected his advances.

Elliot was the son of Peter Rodger, one of the assistant directors of Hollywood’s The Hunger Games.

According to the Post and Courier, attorney Alan Shifman spoke on behalf of the family, saying: “My client’s mission in life will be to try to prevent any such tragedies from happening again. This country, this world, needs to address mental illness and the ramifications from not recognizing these illnesses.”

Shifman also said the Rodger family is “staunchly against guns” and “supports gun-control laws.”

Is it the gun?

There has been much talk about how these incidents have increased over the last 30 years… while that observation is worthy of additional scrutiny to determine its validity, it does correspond to the worlds, and particularly the U.S., changing the way we handle the mentally ill and their subsequent treatment.

We must be very careful how this discussion of mental illness progresses. We seem to be in a rush to assign illness to every individual in every circumstance such a PTSD to Autism. Certainly there are many valid cases of these illnesses, but there are also certainly many which are not.
