“I’s” and “We’s”

World over there are basically two groups of people, the “I’s” and the “We’s”.

The “I’s” enjoy being alone sometimes.    The “I” see’s their happiness and sustenance as a very personal pursuit and achieving both is not dependant on any other “I” or “We”.  “I’s” accept responsibility for their actions good and bad.  Occasionally they choose to get together and becomes “We’s”.  The “I’s” like to do this because it can be beneficial in solving a problem, but not always.  At the end of the day their true joy is that they can go home and just be an “I”.

An “I” would never seek to force another “I” to be a “We”, or a “We” to be a “We” for that matter.

The “We’s” hate the “I’s”.

The “We’s” see their happiness, and sustenance, dependant upon every other “I” and “We”.   “We’s” think it’s their right to make the “I’s”, and other “We’s”, supply them with this happiness and sustenance.  Because of this, the “We’s” know they can never be happy as long as there are “I’s”.  So the “We’s” constantly look for ways to force the “I’s” to be “We’s” even when the “I’s” don’t want to.

The “We’s” longingly dream of a time when all “I’s” are Forced to be “We’s”.

Are you an “I” or a “We”?

Once Upon a Time a Racist…

… was a person who believed an Individual’s Skin Color determined their value.  It was very simple.  This person thought One Race was superior and others inferior.  Not surprisingly those who held that belief were almost always of the Race they held to be Superior…

I continue to subscribe to this definition.

However, Now We are being told that a Racist is a person who believes they should be secure in their property and does not think Politicians should be granted the Power to Spread the Wealth Around while defining who is ‘wealthy’ and who is not.  Thus a Racist is a person who feels they should be allowed to keep what they earn.

A Racist also seems to be a person who finds Socialism to be destructive, repugnant and poisonous requiring them to fight against it where ever it presents itself. A person who believes that all people should be judged by the content of their character.  A person who believes there should be no boxes to check on Employment applications, Medical paperwork and Census forms declaring something you had absolutely nothing to do with.  A person who thinks a persons ability, and only their ability, should be used to determine access to Universities, Colleges and Jobs.  A person who knows down deep that preferential treatment based on Color was what we have been told we should be fighting against, and believes it.

A Racist is now being positioned as any Anglo… or, oddly enough Asian… who disagrees with anyone else “of color”.  Because “disagreement” is now offensive.  And someone, somewhere, found a Right not to be offended.

The War on Words apparently needs a hash-tag campaign.

This leaves us with a very large Question hanging out there desperately needing to be asked…

Sadly, there is an equally short answer.

And there is another one,

The ability to stifle Rational Debate and Reasoned Discussion… except for that which you agree… is Priceless.

And the Taxpayer money associated with being considered a “minority group” as determined by the latest Census numbers and estimates is Huge.  So large, in fact, that some Individuals have built Empires on this Redistribution of Wealth.  The idea such income could, or should, ever be discontinued cannot be tolerated.  And it’s not.

So, brand new definitions of a Racist are demanded in order to head off such discussion and preserve the Money, and Power, associated with Institutionalized Victimhood.

Here we are.

With no one to blame.

We have allowed this phenomena to exist… we have Nurtured it.

We allow weak-minded Statists to yell Racist then run away when the discussion does not go the way they want it to.  And, predictably, this happens far too often.

I offer it’s time to return to the “Old” definition of Racist.  The correct one.

I also offer it’s time to stop allowing others to determine what is acceptable discussion and what is not.  That behavior is not what this Country was founded Upon, but we have wandered far, far away from what this country was Founded Upon.  What better time to stop the wandering but right now, this second.

I finally offer that all of our politicians need to return to protecting all of us as Individuals.  If they can’t scrub the term “minority” out of their lexicon then they should be reminded that the Individual is the Ultimate Minority, there can be no reasoned debate about it.  Considering 100% of the Democrat Party and well over 80% of the Republican party Fail to see their responsibility to represent us as Individuals is a sad, sorry, indictment of our current Government.  When “Party Politics” of both sides see everyone as groups instead of embracing the Universal message of Individual Liberty, Freedom and right to Property all protected by a Seriously Limited Government, we must become extremely concerned.

When politicians are more concerned about protecting Government from Us rather than Us from Government… we are in very serious trouble.

No one wants to believe it’s actually happening right in front of them.  Well, it’s happening right in front of you.

We are in very serious trouble.

But remember, at the end of the day it is Our Fault.  We did this. You and Me.

And only We can stop it.

The truly Enlightened will start embracing each other as Individuals.  They will not give credit, nor discount, another person based on where they were born or what color their skin is… or what their parents did.  To do so is absurd, ignorant and serves only to oppress.

You are not your Race.

You are not your Gender.

You are not your Sexuality.

You are what you Do, and nothing more.

Find comfort in your singularity.

I Am, because I Say So.

If I Think about it… I might not exist at all.

There is a War on Meaning in the country and it starts with Names, which are simply tools for understanding.

If you have read anything I’ve written In the past you might already suspect I will not be found having lunch with the “No Labels” crowd.  In fact, I believe Labels are an extremely important part of conceptualization and our ability to communicate complex ideas to each other.  If I can tell you I drove to work in my CAR, without having to explain the complexities of the internal combustion engine, and you understand what I’m talking about we have both saved a lot of time… my time telling you how I got to work, and yours trying to figure out how to walk away.

The same concept is used when Identifying yourself to others, and more importantly when speaking of others being able to Identify Them..  The reason we do this is to save a million unnecessary words while communicating a thought or idea.

Makes sense right? With me so far?

In fact, Labels are so important that our ability to apply them in the process of comprehending complex concepts is the only behavior separating us from the rest of the Animal Kingdom.

It makes us special… right up until we go to government school.  Then only some of us survive being told there is nothing special about us vs. the Silvery Minnow, Spotted Owl, Red Algae, etc..

Let me share some examples of the Destruction of Meaning I’m talking about here;

I feel drugs should be legal but Capitalism is Evil! – I am a Libertarian, because I Say So.

I Hate those people because of what they are saying! – I am Open Minded, because I Say So.

I feel those Anti-Abortion people should be thrown in jail! – I am Tolerant, because I Say So.

I feel other people, not me, can’t be trusted to make the decisions I feel are right! – I am Smart, because I Say So.

I’m a Progressive Liberal, but calling me a Socialist is ridiculous! – I am Enlightened, because I Say So.

Communism and Socialism are Completely Different! – I am Educated, because I Say So.

I get my news from the Daily Show! – I am Informed, because I Say So.

News Outlets that don’t seem to agree with my point of view should be forced to say things I feel are true! – I support the First Amendment, because I Say So.

I feel some new restrictions on the Second Amendment, First Amendment and Fourth Amendment by the courts is a good idea!  – I am a Constitutional Conservative Republican, because I, John McCain, Say So.

I feel we should all have equal rights as individuals without government interference in our lives! – I am a Democrat, only because I Say So… and my friends are… and I vote for Democrats… because it’s cool… right?

We can call ourselves anything we want… but it doesn’t make it so.  We don’t get to change the meaning of the labels… even though there are many, many people who try.

The problem is poor thinking, and labels with the meaning destroyed, leads us to do stupid (non-reasoned, irrational) things.  But we prefer the Label we think makes us “look good” among our peers.  Our social network is so important to us that we will not do anything to risk losing it.  So we try to assign our own, “new”, definition to a Label which already means something.  This is the War I’m talking about. (If you haven’t read any Eric Hoffer, do yourself a favor.  Amazon is a few key strokes away.)

Pro-Choice Catholics come to mind.  Tolerant Leftists and Scientists who believe in Consensus follow closely behind…  I’m sure you can think of many more examples I’m leaving out.

All I’m suggesting is we spend a considerable chunk of time thinking about what we think.  Then, we should be honest enough to admit where we fit in regardless of how it might offend our parents and friends.  This will also allow us to identify those who commit the crime of Murdering Meaning.  It’s a little scary at first, because Serial Meaning Murderers are everywhere.

One of my favorite philosophers once stated “A = A”.  Her point was; The Truth is The Truth.  This might surprise a number of Public School educators out there, but “2+2” cannot equal “5” no matter how hard the student tries, or wants, to make it so.  What we believe to be the truth can be, and often is, wrong.  The Universe simply doesn’t care about one’s self-esteem.  And, I feel that’s Mean.  Mean Universe! Mean!

I believe that I’m a Brilliant and worthy of praise by all…

I also believe I’m Sober most of the time… a Nice guy… Rich… Young… Good-Looking…

Let’s talk about Rand…

Since Ayn Rand has come up recently in the background, let’s talk about her a bit.

The Left HATES her… with a white-hot passion, and for good reason.  She is so dangerous to them they would have you dismiss her before ever meeting her.  Once you meet her they will accuse you of being in a cult.  May be so…  but if there was ever a cult I would join…

Ayn Rand was a brilliant free-market capitalist, self-centered almost to the point of narcissism… and a speed freak. And, I love her.

I love her for everything she sent me off to do.  Because of her I searched out Aristotle, Locke, Hayak and Von Mises, read Calumet “K”, learned to love Victor Hugo, found Wright and Neutra.
I have read everything publicly available short of going directly to ARI’s archives.
I’ve consumed her every word and even found pictures of the Lions.
However, she would not like me much.
It would be a tale of unrequited love.
I consider myself an Agnostic. She would consider me misguided.
I understand why, as hers was a world that rightly suspected all institutions, particularly religious ones, of seeking the subjugation of their followers.
She also felt that Man was to be worshipped and he should strive only to achieve because it was his responsibility as the most powerful thing proven to exist.
I simply subscribe to the idea that I don’t know. And because I don’t know it leaves me humble as it should all of us. The search for God/Truth should continue as it is the basis of science… but we must all recognize that there will always be questions without answers when our time is up. So we will always “not know”.

She would leave me like she did Isabel.
That’s enough of the borderline “heavy” stuff, and morsels for your googling.

But it is a testament to Rand that most often discussion goes that direction when she is brought up by those who know her.
It is also a testament to her that while she would have me checking and re-checking my premises, while eventually ceasing to speak to me at all due to her frustration, I would remain indebted to her and respect her none the less. I suspect Mr. Brandon might say the same thing.
The Collective was an incredible group of people seeking reason during a time when feeling ruled the world. They were the true outcasts within their age group and held in contempt by those in the know.
Anything less than respect must come from the ignorant…
So there you go.

If I were to suggest a single book by Rand and the Collective it would have to be Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. (I don’t recommend books.)
You don’t have to know her like I do, but you’re doing yourself a disservice not at least going on a date.
Cheers! Mike

This Country Made You!

There is a disturbing idea floating around out there that one should be forever grateful for their success because “this country (U.S.) made them”.

On the contrary… you made this country.

Unless you have fully enlisted somewhere in the spectrum of Socialism… this country did not make you any more than the serial killer who decided NOT to kill you because you picked the wrong onion in the produce aisle is responsible for everything you did with your life from that moment on.

The United States is a gift to the world not because it is the creator of success… it is a gift to the world because it does not impede it. (Well at least is doesn’t do every imaginable thing to impede it… yet… give the Left time.)

So to all of you, particularly those who consider themselves “Conservatives”, think very carefully about what you are saying. Then, refrain from saying it.  If you aver that we as individuals owe an allegiance to the United States I would rather offer that the United States owes an allegiance to the individual (you).

The undeniable success of this country is not by decree from above… it is by the ingenuity and ambition that each individual has brought to the table on their own behalf… from below.

Don’t mistake what I’m saying for an inability to be grateful… I am grateful.  I’m grateful that politicians have yet to figure out how to stifle every bit of ambition and innovation in this country through their never ending drive for graft.  I’m grateful that occasionally someone speaks up when a politician attempts to create barriers to entry protecting his, and his friends, business interests from competition.

I’m grateful to see someone like Mark Zuckerberg become so successful so quickly that the very people who would have liked to claim credit (politicians who shoot at everything that flies and take credit for everything that falls) were behind the curve and can only cry and stomp their feet when those with the drive and imagination legally avoid their tax schemes and barriers to entry.

I’m grateful that our soldiers and servicemen take an oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution and not “America” or “The United States”.  As the latter do not identify the specific values our founders intended, but morph into and out of the limitations set forth by them.

You should be grateful too… and when you say it’s “wrong” when one of them wants to leave the country to escape the unreasonable tax burden built on the idea that every dollar our politicians spend is imperative to the well-being of everything, then I believe you need to rethink your premises.

Let’s remember who made what and the philosophy this country was created upon.  (Start with Locke and Montesquieu then move forward… please.  It’s more important than the latest sequel at the theater.)
