According to Tom Donohue, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, it’s 102-year-old existence has been to “Help the Government whenever (they) can.”
This he said on Fox News with Neil Cavuto today (011315).
This seemed odd to me. Very odd.
So I went to their website.
From the Chamber directly:
“The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business organization representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions. Our members range from mom-and-pop shops and local chambers to leading industry associations and large corporations. They all share one thing in common—they count on the Chamber to be their voice in Washington, D.C.”
No mention of their newly revealed mission of “helping the Government whenever they can”.
In fact, there is no mention of such a move towards the cooperation between government and business reflective of Fascism anywhere on their site.
Take a moment and visit it: www.uschamber.com
One can only take away from the Chamber’s site that they represent the interests of Business… not Government.
Mr. Donohue’s proclamation might just come as a surprise to the millions of business owners who donate millions of dollars to the Chamber, including their local chapters, and expect them to be advocating on their behalf.
Allow me to be the first to say…
“Surprise!”
It’s worth noting that every time you hear ‘Big Money Donors’ and ‘Washington Lobbyists’ in reference to Republican candidates, think U.S. Chamber of Commerce. They are also a major reason we continue to get Establishment Liberal Republicans (Democrats with ‘R’s’ behind their names) as Presidential nominees. It’s a big reason will will see more of the same this election cycle unless we wake up.

Good one, Mike. Our dinky little chamber of commerce did that several years ago. Naturally since the Chamber now exists to serve government, the business leaders saw no reason to keep paying dues. Now we have a very tiny Chamber and almost no commerce going on, but we got a big government. The Big Gov of course, are now busy stressing out because no commerce means no taxes. I kid you not, they’ve now hired an expert to try and study that. How are we going to fund ourselves if there’s no commerce and we’ve squashed all the economic growth??
I dunno.

You should organize an community effort to personally drop off copies of Wealth of Nations to the City Council. You could follow that up with Freidman’s ‘Freedom to Choose’ and Rands ‘Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal’.
I’m assuming the council members and their ‘expert’ can read?

LOL, they can read me my rights. Bit too much fondness for fascism in those quarters.
I’ve suggested we just storm the castle with torches and pitchforks, but so far I haven’t been able to rally the villagers.

Clearly we need some pitchfork and torch control.
