Quantum Cryptography

…or you’ve been Left Behind.

The Superpowers have a new way of communicating.

And it’s perfectly secure…

Quantum Entanglement is the next step in the Communication Revolution.

And, only the Superpowers will have it.

That means the rest of us… everybody… will be using communication methods which can, and are, being intercepted and archived for later reference.

I’m going to take a moment for you to digest what you have just read, and linked to, from the above statement.

Now… Grab your Cloak and Dagger then Rub your hands together and practice your Villainous Laugh.  “BoohaHaHaaaaahaahaaha…”

What advantage might be enjoyed by having a completely secure, unlimited, method of communication while the rest of the world does not?

Combine that with the ability to intercept and store every bit of that information the rest of the world uses, transmits or receives in order to communicate, what might be the advantage now?

Throw on top of this super computing capability to sift through all of it, and methods to break every code ever devised…

No need to imagine… it’s here.  No Conspiracy Theory Needed.

For the moment I’ll leave you here to makeaneffort.  Fire up your Binger… or Googler… or Whatever you user…

In reality – what is the benefit of being able to access BILLIONS of pieces of information – the majority of it most likely being mundane and benign? Aside from the cost of putting such a system in place- the cost of monitoring it would seem to be an outrageous waste of resources.

I would have agreed with you 20 years ago.

Would you like to know what your kids are doing at anytime you wanted, how about your husband, stock broker, boss, employees, criminals, neighbors, friends, lovers, politicians? Any one of them, or may be all of them at different times, but they don’t share the ability to do it to you? There is power in knowing and not being known.

No – I don’t want to know. Is that bad of me? Plus, I can barely keep up with my own schedule let alone worry about what everyone else might be doing. I have never been a particularly nosey person though.

It is much more complex than just the ability to know gossip -the media had done a disservice in pushing this narrative.

The mined data will profile your political slant and its use will likely mimic and mushroom the IRS’s strategy of denying organizations their tax status, slow-playing with massive paperwork, intrusive and illegal questioning, and telling organization they may not use their right to free speech, nor protest.

First, the data collected in on individuals, and ergo, it is presumable that b>the person is the target. So what can happen? We don’t know yet but it will be possible to rate you for loyalty to the political party in charge, or for the cost-effectiveness of your healthcare, and for your ability to pay more taxes…we just don’t know

I don’t see how this technology is limited to the government. Maybe some corporation will develop a product that allows people without any knowledge of quantum physics to send quantum encrypted messages. Not that this isn’t disconcerting…

You’re right. There are certainly private applications for this. But let me ask you, if you’re a Government who is finding value in being able to monitor every bit of information that is being sent and received… in addition to stored on computers everywhere, would you be interested in having the public enjoy a fully secure, un-decipherable, means of communication. May be… In the world I would want to live in, yes.

Of course the government wouldn’t want that, but what is your point? That the government would be interested in banning such technology (like they would like to do with guns), giving them a distinct advantage?

This type of communication has been extremely expensive to develop. Without an economy of scale, the cost alone would make it prohibitive for public use… It also requires the ability to put satellites up in close proximity to each other (in it’s current form) and would require Government cooperation to do so. While I don’t think it could be kept from public use forever, it could certainly be tied up with regulations and denial of authorizations to proceed. It could become more marketable once a terrestrial network could be developed… and that would make it harder for Government restrictions to be applied… not impossible, just harder. I guess my point is what we have works for the purposes of commerce and social communication… it’s just not secure. And I just don’t think the powers that be, anywhere in the world, would be interested in facilitating such a network for public use.

Los Alamos researchers are in the process of taking this technology even further by developing a smaller scale version that is capable of being put on an Earthorbiting satellite for transmitting quantum keys distances of hundreds of miles between the satellite and a ground station.

Interesting, it occurs to me you can observe the progress and planned coverage with the launching of LEOs

Further, the ‘Eve’ factor is and will always be unknown. I always think the biggest mistake is to use the builders to find the accidental* backdoor.

accidental* lol, human beings are so funny

But they are so very clever and powerful. Surely, therefore, we must trust them. Right? Besides, they work for us and are our betters. Thus, in essence, saith President Obama, may his Holy Name be praised by all!
